Dining Table in Cherry
I started this Cherry Shaker dining table and matching benches during the height of the 2020 Pandemic, with the hopes of bringing its new owner many decades of service! It occurred to me while wiping on finish one evening, that in this crazy era of social distancing, lockdowns and limited gatherings, it was comforting to build a piece of furniture with seating arrangements (benches) that by design encourage conviviality and closeness- perhaps a reminder that our current state of affairs, albeit difficult, is only temporary!
Process.
3d Modeling was used to test proportion and shaping. This test looks at bench designs.

Benches glued and sanded with Walnut-doweled Tenon and Mortise joinery.
A unique piece of wide cherry was found and used for the top glue up. Walnut dowels draw the breadboard ends.
Hand-cut Tenon and Mortise joints glued up.
